Landus Delivers Over $420,000 in Sustainability Payments to Farmers

Landus is celebrating a major achievement in our Carbon Intensity (CI) Pilot Program. Over $420,000 in payments were delivered to more than 50 Iowa farmers for their 2024 low CI corn crop, covering more than 20,000 acres.

This first of its kind CI pilot program has connected farmers and end users, demonstrating that sustainable farming practices can lower CI scores and deliver tangible rewards. It’s a key step in preparing for 45Z and a milestone that underscores Landus’ leadership in sustainable agriculture. The program was launched in collaboration with Gevo, Verity, and Friona Industries, LP.

More importantly, this program shows that farmers can be rewarded for their sustainability efforts and practices that result in reductions of CI scores. To be enrolled, farmers provided machinery data, physical and digital records related to their farm programs and practices around Carbon Intensity (i.e. fertility programs, tillage, use of enhanced efficiency fertilizers, etc.).

Farmers and guests listen to opening remarks from Matt Carstens, President & CEO.

“This is only the beginning as we expect a rapid expansion of these types of programs to ensure that our farmers can be rewarded for their practices and sustainability efforts,” said Matt Carstens, Landus President & CEO.

Landus plans to continue the program and expand the number of farmers participating, the total acres covered and the amount of payments to farmers this year and next.
